A scar reconstruction consultation in progress

Scar removal and donor reconstruction

Planned around the wound in front of us

When earlier surgery has left a bad scar, patients often hesitate to have it opened again. The memory of the first operation is not a good one, and there is a real fear of making things worse.

Mowoolim plans each reconstruction around the state of the wound, so the scar does not get worse in the process.

Responsibility

We see it through

It may take more than one operation

Where repeated poor surgery has left several layers of bad scarring, or where a single scar is unusually large, one operation may not remove it completely. Sometimes more operations are needed than there are scars.

Even when several stages are required, Mowoolim stays with the case until the donor scar is fully covered and you are satisfied.

Corrected at depth

The two things that most often ruin a donor scar are an over-thick incision and the tension on the skin surface during healing. Where the deep dermis has failed to close without dead space, later revision and reconstruction become much harder.

A reconstruction only reaches its best state when both the surface scar and this deeper condition are addressed accurately.

Mowoolim uses a double closure that pulls firmly down to just above the periosteum, keeping follicular circulation intact while leaving no dead space.
